The family of 70-year-old Rondy Packard Sr., reported him missing after he failed to return from a fishing trip on Sunday, June 28. Search-and-rescue crews searched for about a week before finding him alive on July 4. It’s unclear why Packard didn’t return home as planned, but a press release from the local sheriff’s office does say he required an airlift out from his remote location near Pine Flat Lake in California.

“Around 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 4, a volunteer Air Squadron member spotted Rondy Packard’s vehicle in an extremely remote area approximately 20 miles northeast of Pine Flat Lake, just above Fence Meadow,” wrote the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post sharing the happy update. “Shortly before 3:30, search teams responded there and found Packard about 500 feet from his pickup truck. He was alive, alert and in good health. Due to the rugged terrain, the California Highway Patrol’s H-40 helicopter hoisted Packard from the scene and safely transported him to awaiting medical personnel.”
