2026 Grech Turismo-ion Tour AWD review: serious power, tiny storage

Summary: The 2026 Grech Turismo-ion Tour AWD is a 19-foot-6-inch Mercedes-Benz Sprinter camper van with four belted seats, a rear power-sofa bed, wet bath and a new 51-volt house-power system. It is unusually well equipped for a short Class B, but its $264,900 claimed MSRP, limited storage, one-bed layout and a current roof-vent recall make a careful exact-VIN inspection essential.

Research disclosure: This is a desk-researched buyer guide, not a road test. RVCamping.info did not drive, inspect, weigh, rent, sleep in, purchase or otherwise test a Turismo-ion.

The Turismo family does not appear in RVCamping.info's review manifest during the preceding 365 days. The earlier Grech review covered the larger Strada-ion Lounge, not this 144-inch-wheelbase model.

Bottom line

The Turismo-ion Tour AWD makes sense for a couple who wants a short Sprinter with a large battery system and two extra travel seats. The official 2026 manual identifies a 19-foot-6-inch Tour layout that seats four and sleeps two.[1] Grech's live inventory page for a sampled 2026 coach identifies the Tour floorplan, AWD, stock 105085 and VIN W1X4NBVY5ST195186.[2]

The compromise is simple: almost every inch has a job. The rear sofa is the only adult bed, the wet bath consumes part of the center aisle, and storage is much tighter than in a 24-foot Class B. An independent MotorTrend test of an earlier Turismo-ion praised the supportive converted bed and car-space maneuverability but found no closet, a noisy roof air conditioner near the bed and cabinets that opened on rough roads.[6] Grech has since changed the air conditioner, controls and electrical system, so those observations are inspection prompts rather than findings about every 2026 coach.

Best fit: one or two campers who value a compact exterior, four travel seats, AWD, quiet battery power and premium interior finish more than wardrobe space, separate beds or a low purchase price.

Skip it: buyers who need four sleeping positions, a dry bath, a permanent bed, a large cargo garage, easy DIY access to a conventional 12-volt system, or a van that can enter normal parking garages.

Official specifications, including a documentation conflict

The table is for the 2026 Turismo-ion Tour AWD. Sources were retrieved at 2026-10-15 00:10 UTC. Grech's 2026 manual opens by naming the Sprinter 2500, 144-inch chassis, then carries a specification heading that incorrectly says “Sprinter 3500 170 EXT.” Its dimension drawings show a 144-inch wheelbase and a 234-inch body, which match the Turismo's compact identity.[1] The exact coach's VIN decode, Mercedes data card, Grech completed-vehicle label and weight labels must settle the paperwork.

The bad 3500/170-inch heading matters because it can migrate into listings and insurance paperwork. A 144-inch Sprinter 2500 and a 170-inch 3500XD are not interchangeable descriptions. Do not accept a generic brochure as proof of the vehicle in front of you.

Floorplan and daily-use analysis

Four can ride, but only two can sleep

The Tour's two removable companion seats create a useful forward conversation area with the swivel cab seats. This is a real advantage for day trips, airport runs or a couple traveling with friends. It is not a four-person camper layout. The official manual caps sleeping at two.[1]

Build the sofa bed before signing. Check the seam between powered sections, the firmness at hip and shoulder, the route to the toilet at night and whether bedding has a practical daytime home. An RV Trader evaluator of the 2024 Tour liked the compact driving footprint and rear lounge concept, while MotorTrend's earlier test found the converted mattress supportive.[6][7] Neither test proves the 2026 bed will suit a particular couple.

The bathroom wins space from storage

A private wet bath is valuable in a van under 20 feet, but the layout does not create space; it reallocates it. Sit on the toilet with the door closed, simulate showering and check knee, shoulder and head room. Run water long enough to test the pan, drain, sealant, vent and nearby cabinetry.

MotorTrend's month-long test called out the lack of a closet.[6] That is a more important limitation than a missing decorative feature. Two people should arrive at the showroom with the clothes, shoes, towels and bedding they would actually carry. If those items do not have dry, restrained homes, the floorplan does not fit.

The new electrical system is capable and complex

Grech says its 2026 Grech Power system uses a 16,896-Wh 51-volt Lithionics battery, a 3,000-watt Victron inverter, Garmin Serv+ controls, remote diagnostics and a high-output alternator regulator.[3] That is manufacturer information, not a measured runtime promise. Air-conditioner runtime depends on ambient temperature, thermostat setting, sun, battery state, other loads and battery health.

The 51-volt architecture also narrows the pool of technicians who can diagnose it well. Before delivery, demand a battery-capacity report and watch shore, solar and engine-driven charging separately. Run the air conditioner, induction cooktop and microwave under agreed safe loads. Record voltage, current, alarms and temperatures. Locate disconnects, fuses, manual overrides and emergency procedures rather than relying on a green screen icon.

Short outside does not mean light inside

A 9,050-pound GVWR has to cover the finished coach, four occupants, water, food, luggage and accessories.[1] The official material reviewed did not provide a trustworthy universal occupant-and-cargo allowance. The yellow label on the exact van controls. With four adults aboard, weigh both axles in travel condition before adding a hitch carrier or trailer tongue load.

At 19 feet 6 inches, the Turismo is easier to place than a 24-foot Era or Strada. Its 10-foot-2-inch AWD height is the harder constraint.[1] Measure the actual roofline with vents, antennas and accessories. Parking garages, drive-throughs, tree cover and service-bay doors deserve more attention than the body length.

What independent reviewers and owners report

The available experience evidence is useful but not a defect-rate study:

  • Month-long earlier-generation road test: MotorTrend found the 144-inch Turismo easy to park, praised the bed padding and saw modest battery use during several hours of indoor loads. It also reported limited storage, no closet, roof-A/C noise, unlatching cabinets, one crooked outlet and awkward display timeout behavior. That test used the older V6/4x4 chassis and 12-volt battery generation, not the 2026 51-volt AWD build.[6]
  • Independent 2024 Tour evaluation: RV Trader's reviewer assessed the exact Tour floorplan and described the short-wheelbase driving experience, rear lounge and wet-bath trade-offs. The review predates Grech Power and should not be treated as a 2026 systems test.[7]
  • Owner perspective: a 2024 Turismo-ion owner on iRV2 said the smaller four-cylinder van used fewer fuel stops than a previous 25-foot Mercedes RV and described the early ownership experience as a pleasant surprise. The thread contained little long-term fault history, so it supports satisfaction, not reliability statistics.[8]

The pattern is coherent: compact maneuverability and finish are the appeal; storage, bed conversion and concentrated systems are the trade. The 2026 electrical upgrade is substantial enough that older battery-runtime anecdotes should not be carried forward as specifications.

New purchase path and price

Grech's inventory page exposes VIN-specific 2026 Tour AWD stock and links buyers to authorized dealers.[2][15] A National Indoor RV Centers listing in Nashville showed stock 13056X at $220,495 against a claimed $264,900 MSRP when captured at 2026-10-15 00:10 UTC.[9] That is a live asking price, not an out-the-door quote.

Grech's official 2026 product material captured for this review did not display a clean year-specific MSRP page. The $264,900 figure appears consistently in live dealer inventory and the RVUSA year/floorplan guide, but RVCamping.info could not verify a standalone Grech 2026 MSRP sheet.[9][10] Treat it as a dealer-published claimed MSRP, not a factory invoice. Grech's current 2027 page has already moved to a different year and price.

The NIRVC page did not expose a complete fee worksheet. Ask for a written line-by-line quote covering base coach, factory options, freight, dealer preparation, documentation charges, taxes, title, registration, any finance-conditioned discount and the status of Grech's VIN-specific rebate. A lower advertised number is not necessarily a lower delivered price.

Before leaving a deposit:

  1. Match the coach year, chassis year, VIN, Grech serial and Tour AWD floorplan.
  2. Get the original window sticker, Mercedes data card, final-stage label and installed-option list.
  3. Make the deposit refundable pending independent RV and Mercedes inspections, axle weights and a measured house-battery test.
  4. Confirm which nearby Grech and Mercedes facilities will accept this VIN.
  5. Require correction of recall 26V628000 when applicable and retain the completion record.[5]

Used-market snapshot

These are asking prices observed at 2026-10-15 00:10 UTC. They are not sale prices, appraisals or a market value. Exact equipment varies, and two entries are included as nearby Turismo-ion family comparisons rather than identical 2026 Tour AWD units.

The first listing is the closest floorplan match. The other two show what shoppers may see when results collapse Tour and Twin Bed versions into one family. Do not compare those asks without checking drive type, battery generation, bed layout, chassis equipment, warranty in-service date and recall completion. The 2026 Grech Power hardware differs from the 2024 12-volt system, so a simple age adjustment would be misleading.

Recall and coach-versus-chassis year

NHTSA's model query returned one recall for the 2026 Grech Turismo at capture. Campaign 26V628000, reported September 30, 2026, covers certain 2026-2027 Turismo motorhomes equipped with specified MaxxAir N-Series Maxxfan roof vents. NHTSA says the circuit board may overheat, increasing fire risk; the remedy is dealer inspection and board replacement as necessary.[5]

A model-level match does not prove that every van is included or repaired. Run the full 17-character VIN through NHTSA on inspection day and again before closing.[14] Ask Grech for campaign status and retain the repair invoice.

Coach and chassis model years can differ because Grech completes an incomplete Mercedes vehicle after chassis production. The sampled coach VIN contains a chassis-year code that should be decoded with Mercedes and NHTSA records, but the listing headline alone is not enough. Record the Grech coach year, Mercedes chassis year, completion date and both warranty start dates separately.

Model-specific inspection checklist

  1. Match VIN, title, registration, Grech serial, completed-vehicle label and advertised 2026 Tour AWD identity.
  2. Record coach year, chassis year, conversion date and warranty in-service dates separately.
  3. Obtain the Mercedes data card and resolve the manual's incorrect 3500/170-inch specification heading.
  4. Run the full VIN through NHTSA, Grech and Mercedes recall/campaign systems.
  5. Confirm campaign 26V628000 applicability and documented MaxxAir board inspection or replacement.[5]
  6. Obtain original sticker, build sheet, manuals, keys, option list and service invoices.
  7. Verify Grech, Mercedes, appliance and Lithionics warranty status and transfer requirements.[4]
  8. Read the yellow occupant-and-cargo label and weigh the loaded van by axle.
  9. Measure actual travel height, width and length with all accessories fitted.
  10. Inspect roof seams, vent, A/C, awning mounts, windows, doors and penetrations for water entry.
  11. Use a moisture meter where materials and inspector training make that appropriate.
  12. Identify every 51-volt battery module, serial number, firmware version and service date.
  13. Obtain a documented battery-capacity and cell-balance report.
  14. Demonstrate shore, solar and alternator charging separately while recording voltage, current and temperature.
  15. Run the 3,000-watt inverter with agreed appliance loads and inspect alarms and transfer behavior.
  16. Exercise Garmin Serv+ and remote diagnostics; verify sensors, tank readings and fault history.
  17. Locate high-voltage disconnects, fuses, grounds, service interlocks and emergency procedures.
  18. Inspect cabling for heat, corrosion, chafe, loose support and undocumented modifications.
  19. Start the Gree heat-pump A/C and diesel heat/hot-water system from cold in every supported mode.
  20. Verify refrigerator temperature pull-down and recovery after repeated openings.
  21. Run the induction cooktop and microwave/convection appliance on battery and shore power.
  22. Fill the fresh tank, pressurize plumbing and inspect pump cycling, fittings and winterization valves.
  23. Shower under test conditions; verify pan drainage, seals, vent operation and nearby moisture.
  24. Fill and drain gray and black tanks; test valves, hose fittings and level sensors.
  25. Cycle the rear power sofa repeatedly on battery and shore power.
  26. Build the bed, measure the surface, inspect center support and test the nighttime bath route.
  27. Inspect all four travel-seat belts, pedestals, swivels, head restraints and attachment points.
  28. Confirm the removable companion seats can be handled and stored as planned.
  29. Load clothing, bedding, food and shoes to prove that storage works for two travelers.
  30. Check every cabinet latch on a road test and inspect for prior impact damage.
  31. Extend the awning and entry step; test wind sensor and manual override.
  32. Check tire dates, ratings and pressure; inspect wheels, brakes, alignment and suspension.
  33. Scan the Mercedes chassis and road-test with a qualified inspector.
  34. Verify DEF, diesel-service history and every driver-assistance function.
  35. Compare receiver, tongue, axle, GVWR and GCWR limits against the actual towing plan.
  36. Confirm nearby Grech, Mercedes, Lithionics, Victron and appliance service options before purchase.
  37. Make closing contingent on clean title/lien history, inspections and correction of documented faults.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Winnebago Revel 44E: similarly short Mercedes AWD van, with more gear-focused packaging and fewer passenger seats.
  • Pleasure-Way Ascent TS: compact Sprinter couples' van with a rear sofa bed; compare battery capacity, storage and service network.
  • Airstream Interstate 19X: premium short Sprinter with a different lounge and off-pavement emphasis.
  • Grech Turismo-ion Twin Bed: same compact platform and 2026 power architecture with separate rear beds; compare aisle access and daytime seating.

Methodology, limitations and disclosures

Manufacturer facts come from Grech's 2026 manual, current inventory, power-system and warranty pages. The manual contains a material chassis-heading error, and the official site had moved its main product presentation toward 2027. Exact-unit labels and paperwork take precedence.[1][2][3][4]

Independent reports cover 2023 and 2024 coaches, not the new 2026 51-volt system. They establish what named reviewers and one owner experienced, not what every buyer will experience.[6][7][8] Listing pages support only the stated asks at the stated timestamp. No seller was contacted, no unit was inspected and no transaction price was obtained.

A targeted rights search checked general web results, Wikimedia Commons, Flickr Creative Commons discovery and Grech's media presence for an exact 2026 Turismo-ion Tour AWD photograph licensed for commercial editorial reuse. It found manufacturer, dealer and marketplace images but no exact-model photograph with compatible verified rights. None was reused. The lead is an original 1600-by-900 non-photorealistic buyer-check diagram, not a photograph or exact floorplan rendering.

No video is embedded. Search found dealer and manufacturer walkthroughs, but no clip was needed to prove the 2026 specification set, and embeddability was not independently verified. No thumbnail or frame was downloaded or reused.
