Chicks one and two of the season have hatched in the nest of Jackie and Shadow, an internet-famous pair of bald eagles. The eagles live in California’s Big Bear Valley. The non-profit organization Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) manages trail cameras that broadcast Jackie and Shadow’s lives to the world. Many thousands of the bald eagles’ fans are now rejoicing, because both of their chicks have hatched, and they’re so cute to watch.

“Gentle Giants and Bonking Babies . . . It is amazing to watch Jackie and Shadow move around their tiny chicks so gently and cautiously,” wrote FOBBV in an Instagram post sharing footage of the fuzzy babies. “Both chicks are eating well and eating often, they were fed 17 times today alone! Many of you have seen the chicks bonking each other and for some it can be hard to watch. Bonking is completely normal and necessary at this stage. Each eaglet is working to establish dominance over the other.”
