Dog Is Finally Rescued After 43 Days In The Colorado Rockies

I don’t know about you, but I know that I would not survive 43 days out in the wilderness. Especially if I was unprepared for the journey. However, Rocky the dog managed to beat all the odds and survive that incredible length of time all on his own.
Cowboy State Daily shared some of the details surrounding Rocky’s less-than-stellar experience. The 11-year-old Labrador-boxer mix apparently escaped his harness during a walk with his owner. He and his owner had been walking near the town of Montezuma on Dec. 28, according to the outlet.
Despite frantic search efforts, Rocky managed to avoid detection from both people and surveillance cameras for over a month. Then, “he was successfully spotted and rescued on Feb 9,” Brandon Ciullo, the founder and mission coordinator for Summit Lost Pet Rescue, told the outlet.
While Rocky could not speak to tell his story, rescuers could see the effect that being stranded in the Colorado Rockies for 43 days had on the poor dog.
Rocky After The Rockies
After the dog was rescued, the team assessed Rocky for health. They noticed that the poor little guy was all skin and bones. Ciullo shared that Rocky went from 50 pounds down to 26, showing the harsh toll this excursion took on his body.
Nevertheless, “he didn’t starve and wasn’t killed after 43 days,” which makes this dog a survivor. He literally beat all the odds and managed to stay alive until help was able to find him. Before returning him to his owner, the non-profit rescue organization gave Rocky several days’ worth of medication and food to help him through the recovery process.
