ABC News is reporting that a father in Japan abandoned his seven-year-old son partway up Mount Fuji so that he could continue to the summit of Japan’s tallest peak with his other child. The man reportedly told the younger child to “wait here” for the pair to summit and return. He did this because the young boy was too tired to continue at about 8,000 feet.

A mountain worker later found the seven year old alone, sitting on a bench. He brought the boy to safety and called police. Authorities then ordered the father to come get his kid.
