For Abhinav Chandel, photographing snow leopards in the wild was a dream he’d thinking about for years, especially since he worked with people who had done it. During a recent trip to Spiti, a high-altitude region of the Himalayas in northern India, Chandel decided now was his time to try to see these “ghosts of the Himalayas,” so he rented a lens and gave it his all.

Chandel says he and his team had to sit in the snow for nearly eight hours in freezing-cold temperatures, but the footage he captured is beautiful. He shared clips on Instagram, noting that it took a lot of “patience and strength” to capture these visuals.
