New Study Ranks Top-10 Adventure-Friendly U.S. States

Looking to plan an adventure somewhere in the United States? KÜHL just released a report that ranks all 50 U.S. states in terms of how adventure friendly they are. Some of the results might surprise you.

First, a note about method. KÜHL created an Adventure Access Index that combines four datasets—trail density (30% weight), public land access per capita (25% weight), hiking season quality (25% weight), which refers to the number of months with comfortable temperatures and manageable precipitation, and recreation economy vitality (20% weight). Higher scores on KÜHL’s Adventure Access Index positioned states closer to the top in terms of adventure-ability.

Can you take a guess which state took the number-one spot? Here’s a hint: It’s NOT Colorado!
