‘Soar Free, Jackie’: Beloved Bald Eagle Has Died in Wildlife Rehab

After a valiant fight for her life at a wildlife-rehabilitation center, Jackie the beloved bald eagle has died. Jackie was famously part of a breeding pair of wild eagles in Big Bear Valley, California, where nest cameras stream her family’s every move to adoring fans.
In late July, two subadult eagles attacked Jackie while she was grounded. She ended up at the Ojai Raptor Center for care and treatment. The Ojai Raptor Center team kept the public updated about Jackie’s condition with regular social-media posts.

A few days ago, the center posted an update saying Jackie was not doing well. Yesterday, she died. The Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV), which operates the nest cams, shared the news first.
“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts [that we] bring you the latest update from Ojai Raptor Center,” wrote FOBBV in an Instagram post sharing the sad news. “[. . .] Soar free Jackie.”
According to the Ojai Raptor Center, Jackie (Bald Eagle 26-519) passed away in the early hours of the morning after her condition had deteriorated over the days leading up to her death.
