Fort Worden Beach Campground has a two-phase 2027 closure

Fort Worden's Beach Campground closes in two 2027 phases. Use the site-range calendar, then decide whether Upper Forest's partial hookups can replace full hookups.

Fort Worden Beach Campground has a two-phase 2027 closure

Fort Worden's Beach Campground closure does not begin all at once. Sites 18-50 enter the project first on March 1, 2027; sites 1-16 join the closure on August 1. Both listed ranges have the same February 28, 2028 end date.[1] That split matters for trip planning, but it does not make any unlisted site or date available.

Put the two phases on the trip calendar

Washington State Parks posted the alert on October 25, 2026. It says the work includes electrical and utility connections plus new sites.[1] The alert creates this planning calendar:

Travel datesSites the alert explicitly closesWhat the alert does not establish
March 1-July 31, 2027Beach sites 18-50It does not say that sites 1-16 can be booked, and it does not address site 17.
August 1, 2027-February 28, 2028Beach sites 18-50 and 1-16It still does not address site 17 or promise any other overnight inventory.

Those are closure ranges, not an availability calendar. A site outside a named range may still be occupied, held back, out of season, affected by another restriction or simply not offered for the requested stay. The park page says reservations are necessary year-round because campsites fill quickly.[1]

The clean booking rule is to use the table only to reject a conflict. If a requested site falls inside its listed closure phase, remove it from the plan. If it does not, check the live reservation result for the exact dates and site rather than treating silence in the alert as an opening.

The missing number is not spare inventory

The alert names sites 1-16 and 18-50, leaving 17 out of both ranges.[1] That gap is worth noticing, but it supports no conclusion about site 17. The page does not say whether the number is in use, has changed, is outside the project or can be reserved.

For the same reason, the second phase is best described as the closure of both listed ranges, not a confirmed closure of every Beach Campground site. A traveler who needs certainty should look for a specific reservable result or ask the park about the exact site number. The omission is a question for the park, not a workaround.

Upper Forest changes the hookup decision

The park describes Beach Campground as full-hookup and Upper Forest Campground as partial-hookup.[1] That makes Upper Forest a possible same-park alternative only for an RV setup that can accept the downgrade. The page does not define which utilities are included in "partial-hookup," so the label alone is not enough to plan tank capacity, power or water use.

Your non-negotiableDecision
A full-hookup siteDo not substitute Upper Forest on the strength of this page. Find a specifically confirmed full-hookup reservation for the trip.
A partial-hookup site is workableUpper Forest is the same-park candidate to check, not a promised replacement. Verify the exact utility connections, site fit and live reservation before changing the itinerary.
You have not set the hookup requirementSet it before searching. Decide what the RV can manage without a sewer connection or with limited utilities, then compare only sites whose actual connections are stated.

This distinction keeps two separate questions from being collapsed into one. The closure alert answers which Beach site ranges are scheduled to be unavailable. It does not show that Upper Forest has space, that it operates for every date in the closure window or that its partial hookups match a particular RV.

Use the alert as a filter, not a booking promise

For stays from March 1 through July 31, 2027, screen out Beach sites 18-50. Sites 1-16 are not named in that first phase, but a reservation result still has to establish that one is offered. Beginning August 1, screen out both listed ranges. In either phase, leave site 17 unresolved unless the park or reservation system gives a specific answer.

The current alert runs through February 28, 2028.[1] Treat that as the scheduled endpoint, then check again before relying on a March 2028 stay. Project dates can be revised, and the source page, rather than this calendar, will carry any later change.
