2024 Fleetwood Xcursion SL4E review: flexible seating, messy paperwork

By Romana | Information checked 2026-10-27 UTC

The 2024 Fleetwood Xcursion SL4E is unusually good at carrying people by day and sleeping two at night. The hard part is identifying what is actually installed: Fleetwood offered two very different power packages, and current listings conflict on chassis, height, mileage and even basic dimensions.

The coach model year does not guarantee the chassis model year. One current advertisement even titles the chassis as a 2023 Mercedes-Benz while calling the completed coach a 2024 Fleetwood. Match the Mercedes VIN, Fleetwood serial label, title and build sheet before ordering parts or checking recalls.

Verdict: buy the build sheet, not the feature list

The SL4E's strongest idea is its seating plan. Fleetwood specifies removable rear captain chairs plus a power rear sofa, so the van can carry passengers without giving up the 68-by-82-inch night bed. The 27-gallon fresh tank, 24-gallon gray tank, 14-gallon black tank, wet bath and 3.5-cubic-foot refrigerator support two-person touring rather than cargo-hauling minimalism.[1]

It is also a 24-foot-2-inch extended Sprinter. That length, the rear overhang and Fleetwood's stated 10-foot-10-inch height make parking garages and tight campsites a measured decision, not an assumption based on the Class B badge.[1]

This van best fits a couple who regularly carries friends or family during the day and wants a finished lounge at camp. Buyers who need a fixed bed, a short urban van or a simple electrical system have cleaner choices. The purchase turns on one document: the unit's original window sticker. Without it, a buyer cannot safely infer whether the van has the propane-generator package, the 1,080Ah lithium package, AWD, air ride or other options.

Official 2024 SL4E specifications

Fleetwood's 2024 sales sheet groups the SL2E and SL4E together for chassis and tank figures, then breaks out their refrigerator and microwave differences. It also labels the document preproduction information subject to change.[1]

A third-party exact-model record calls the chassis a Sprinter 2500 and lists 208 horsepower, while Fleetwood calls it a 3500 and lists 211 horsepower.[3] Fleetwood's 11,030-pound GVWR is consistent with a 3500-series extended chassis, but the conflict is still a reason to inspect the VIN plate rather than repeat a dealer feed.

The daily-use decision

The SL4E makes sense when the rear seats matter. Remove them and the lounge opens up; leave them installed and every passenger needs a clear belted position, usable legroom and a safe path to the exit. Test the layout with the same people and child seats you plan to carry. The brochure says the captain chairs slide, swivel and remove, but it does not publish a floorplan-specific occupant-and-cargo capacity.[1]

That missing payload figure matters. Full fresh water alone adds roughly 225 pounds before people, food, bikes, hitch load and options. The yellow occupant-and-cargo label on the exact van is the controlling number. Weigh the loaded coach by axle; do not subtract a brochure dry weight that Fleetwood did not provide.

The two power packages change ownership more than the decor. The generator configuration uses a 330Ah AGM battery, 2,000W inverter, 200W solar, propane generator and propane tank. The Freedom 1080 option removes the generator and propane, then adds four 270Ah lithium batteries, a 3,000W inverter, 320W solar, a 280A secondary alternator and diesel/electric Timberline heat and hot water.[1] Those are different service, winter-storage and replacement-cost propositions.

What independent evidence can and cannot tell us

Independent owner evidence is thin. A September 2026 owner listing claimed 15,000 miles, easy driving, 20 mpg highway and air-ride suspension, then closed because the seller decided to keep the van.[4] Those are useful leads for a test drive and option check, not verified performance measurements or a reliability pattern.

The same scarcity cuts both ways: we did not find enough attributable Xcursion SL4E owner reports to establish recurring praise or recurring defects. RV Guide independently confirms the model identity and MSRP but reproduces the chassis conflict noted above.[3] Buyers should not turn the absence of a complaint pattern into proof of reliability.

MSRP, remaining new stock and asking prices

Fleetwood's surviving Class B page displays an SL4E MSRP of $202,493.[2] The retrieved official text does not say whether destination, dealer preparation, taxes, title, registration or options are included. An exact unit's window sticker and written out-the-door quote are the only safe comparison.

ASKING-PRICE SNAPSHOT: 2026-10-27T00:04:39Z. A Winter Garden, Florida result advertised a new 2024 SL4E at $145,995.[5] Fleetwood's rebate language expired December 31, 2025 or when inventory ran out, so no current factory incentive is assumed.[2]

The used sample is too thin for a value estimate. A recently closed Illinois owner ad asked $135,000 at a claimed 15,000 miles.[4] A Murrieta, California marketplace page showed $180,050, reduced from $252,225, but contradicted itself on mileage and misstated length and fuel capacity.[6] We count that as a listing observation with a data-quality warning, not a clean comparable. These are asking prices, not sale prices, appraisals or out-the-door totals, and two syndicated copies of one ad are still one unit.

Inspect the systems in purchase order

Start with identity. Decode the Mercedes VIN, match the Fleetwood serial label and title, then obtain the original window sticker. Confirm 3500 versus any contrary listing feed, chassis year, drivetrain, rear-seat count and each installed option.

Next, weigh it. Record front and rear axle weights with passengers, water and normal trip cargo. Compare those figures with the door labels, not merely the brochure's GVWR. Inspect tire dates and load ratings, suspension changes, hitch installation and any air-ride equipment.

Then make the lounge do a full day's work. Remove and reinstall each captain chair, inspect floor anchors and belts, convert the sofa several times and lie across the whole 68-by-82-inch surface. With the bed down, check rear-door access, refrigerator access and the route to the wet bath.

Finally, identify the power package component by component. For the AGM/generator build, load-test the battery, run the generator under the air conditioner and inspect propane certification. For Freedom 1080, obtain battery-health data, check charging from shore, solar and the secondary alternator, and test diesel/electric heat and hot water. On either build, pressure-test plumbing, inspect every roof and body penetration for moisture, operate the macerator and electric waste gates, and ask for service records.

NHTSA's make/model query returned zero coach-level results for “2024 Fleetwood Xcursion,” but that is not a clean-VIN certificate.[7] A 2023 Sprinter 3500 query returned six chassis campaigns, and a 2024 query returned three, including rear spring U-bolts and parking-brake cable bracket concerns.[8][9] The exact chassis year and VIN determine applicability and completion, so run the VIN through NHTSA and Mercedes-Benz before purchase.

Walkthrough, alternatives and image rights

Matt's RV Reviews' launch walkthrough is embedded below as a visual introduction to the Xcursion family. YouTube verified the title, channel and standard player, but no transcript was available; the video is not evidence of this exact van's options or condition.[10]

The Midwest Passage MD4 170 EXT is the closest seating-led comparison. A Winnebago Era 70B favors a rear lounge with a more conventional touring-coach layout, while a Pleasure-Way Plateau TS gives up the SL4E's removable rear captain-chair idea for a simpler two-person plan. Compare exact build years and power packages.
