2022 Winnebago Era 70B used buyer’s guide: rear-lounge comfort, recall homework
Research-based 2022 Winnebago Era 70B guide covering official specifications, conflicting MSRP records, used asking prices, electrical inspection priorities and the superseding awning recall.
2022 Winnebago Era 70B used buyer’s guide: rear-lounge comfort, recall homework
By Romana | Information checked 2026-10-26 UTC
The 2022 Era 70B gives two travelers a real galley and a large rear lounge, but its appeal depends on the exact van’s payload, electrical history and completion of the superseding awning recall.

Winnebago’s operator manual separates the chassis manufacture date and VIN year from the Winnebago model year and serial number.[2] A listing that says “2022” therefore does not settle the chassis year. Match the VIN, Winnebago label, title and build paperwork before ordering parts or pricing a warranty.
Verdict: a strong two-person lounge, not a small van
The 70B’s best feature is continuity. The rear sofa is useful by day and becomes the bed at night, while the front companion seat and swiveling cab seats create a second place to sit. The 6-cubic-foot refrigerator, three-burner range, convection microwave and 24-by-43-inch wet bath make this a more complete touring coach than many garage-first adventure vans.[1]
That comfort comes in a 24-foot-3-inch body. It is narrow for a motorhome, but this is still a 170-inch-wheelbase Sprinter with a long rear overhang. Buyers who expect a city-size camper may find the parking and departure-angle tradeoff more important than the Class B label.
The 70B makes the most sense for a couple who wants a proper kitchen and a lounge that does not have to remain a bed all day. It is a weaker fit for buyers who need fixed beds, easy rear cargo access with the bed deployed, four-season boondocking without generator or propane use, or documented wiring support for extensive DIY work.
Official 2022 specifications
The figures below come from Winnebago’s exact 2022 70B page and the corresponding operator manual, both retrieved October 26, 2026.[1][2]
| Specification | Official figure |
|---|---|
| Exterior length | 24 ft 3 in |
| Exterior width | 6 ft 4.25 in |
| Exterior height | 9 ft 8 in RWD / 9 ft 10 in optional 4WD |
| Interior height | 6 ft 3 in |
| Wheelbase | 170 in |
| GVWR | 11,030 lb |
| GCWR | 15,250 lb |
| Front / rear GAWR | 4,410 / 7,720 lb |
| Fresh / gray / black water | 25 / 19 / 9 gal |
| Fuel | 24.5 gal diesel |
| Listed LP capacity | 67.68 lb water capacity; usable fill is lower |
| Refrigerator | 6.0 cu ft, 12V compressor |
| Electrical | two Group 31 AGM batteries, 200W solar, 1,000W inverter, 2,500W LP generator, 30A shore power |
| Sleeping | 2 |
| Hitch | 5,000-lb drawbar / 500-lb maximum tongue weight, subject to loaded-weight limits |
Winnebago warns that installed tank capacity and actual height can vary, and that towing depends on the loaded coach, axle ratings, GCWR and trailer brakes.[1] The operator manual says the occupant-and-cargo label counts full water and tongue weight as cargo.[2] That yellow label and a scale ticket matter more than a dealer’s generic “cargo capacity” field.
The rear-lounge routine
The powered sofa avoids making two narrow beds every evening, but it also ties sleeping comfort to a motor, switches, cushions and clear travel. Cycle it repeatedly, lie on the full surface and watch for uneven movement, weak hardware or cushions that no longer meet cleanly. With the bed down, check what remains reachable through the rear doors.
The wet bath is mid-coach on the passenger side. Its size is workable on paper, yet the removable clothing rod shows the room is expected to do double duty.[1] Sit on the toilet, stand in the shower and close every door before deciding it fits. Run water long enough to test the waste pump used on 70B and 70X models, not just the tank monitor.[2]
Power deserves the same practical test. The original system is modest by current standards: AGM batteries, 200 watts of solar and a 1,000-watt inverter, with the LP generator carrying heavier off-grid loads.[1] Aftermarket lithium can be valuable, but only when charging profiles, cable sizes, fusing, ventilation and alternator charging were changed as a system.
What owners report, with limits
A 2019 70B owner described car-like driving, comfort on long trips, useful storage, a large refrigerator and solar-assisted camping away from hookups.[4] That is a first-person report about an older coach in the same floorplan family, not a reliability forecast for a 2022 unit.
A 2020 70B owner reported frustration tracing circuits without a conventional electrical schematic and described the installed wiring as difficult to follow.[5] Again, that is one earlier coach. It does, however, give a used buyer a concrete test: ask the seller for repair invoices, component manuals and notes for every battery, inverter, solar or audio change. A tidy modification file is worth more than a list of expensive parts.
These reports point in opposite but compatible directions. The Era can be a comfortable long-distance lounge, while later troubleshooting may be time-consuming if the coach has undocumented electrical work.
MSRP history, current status and asking prices
Winnebago’s exact-year page currently displays a base MSRP of $211,769 and says tax, title, license, delivery and options are excluded.[1] RV Guide lists $204,287 for the same 2022 70B.[3] Because the surviving pages conflict and the official route may have been updated after launch, use the original window sticker for the exact coach rather than treating either web figure as its historical transaction price.
The rolling Era page now labels the 70B “dealer stock only.” No factory-orderable 2026 Era 70B or trustworthy new-unit asking-price sample was verified.[10] This is a used-buyer guide, not a current-production review.
USED ASKING-PRICE SNAPSHOT: 2026-10-26T00:03:22Z. One Forest City, Iowa dealer result showed $109,900 and 43,012 miles; another indexed page tied to the same VIN showed a different mileage, which is a warning about stale syndication.[7] A Fife, Washington dealer asked $115,900 for an advertised 4x4 and displayed 28,569 miles in one field and 28,520 in another.[8] RV Trader showed an Auburn, Indiana example at $139,600, with mileage absent from the retrieved result.[9]
Those asks are not sale prices, appraisals or out-the-door totals. The sample is too small and too inconsistent to call a market value. Drive configuration, lithium conversions, maintenance, mileage and title history can move two apparently similar 70Bs far apart.
Inspect the van in the order you will use it
Start with identity and weight. Decode the chassis VIN, match both model-year labels and weigh the loaded van by axle. Inspect tires by date and condition, not tread alone. Have a Sprinter technician review diesel emissions equipment, service history, brakes, suspension, driveline and any 4WD hardware.
Next, turn the lounge into a bed and back several times. Load the refrigerator, open the wet-bath doors and test access with the sofa deployed. Pressure-test the fresh system, run the waste pump, inspect the toilet seal and check every roof, awning, window and utility penetration with a moisture meter.
Then test each electrical source separately: shore power, generator, alternator charging, solar and batteries. Put a real load on the inverter. Confirm battery age and chemistry, converter settings, fuses, disconnects and cable routing. Obtain manuals for installed replacements rather than assuming the 2022 Winnebago manual still describes the van.
Finally, check the awning recall by VIN. NHTSA campaign 23V-694 covers 2020–2024 Era production and supersedes the earlier 22V-695 remedy because awnings could still extend in motion. The later remedy adds a parking-brake interlock and requires correct awning-controller firmware.[6] A receipt for the earlier campaign is not enough; run the exact VIN through NHTSA and obtain the completed-repair record.[13]
Alternatives, video and image rights
A used Era 70A is the closest alternative for buyers who prefer rear twin beds and a cargo tray. A used Airstream Interstate 24GL emphasizes passenger seating, while a current Winnebago Boldt 70BL shifts the decision toward lithium power and twin-bed use. Compare exact years and floorplans rather than assuming the badges describe equivalent systems.
