A man went for a night hike in Arizona and saw an encounter he didn’t expect—a bobcat fighting a rattlesnake. He pulled out his phone and recorded the standoff, which ended in a way that perhaps most people wouldn’t expect.
“Bobcat vs Big Rattlesnake! Didn’t expect this on my night hike,” wrote SmetLogiK in an Instagram post sharing the video.

The video shows the bobcat repeatedly swiping at the rattlesnake, which strikes back over and over. It doesn’t appear that the rattlesnake’s venomous fangs ever sunk into the wild cat’s skin, though, because, in the end, the bobcat carries away its prize.
SmetLogiK notes in a comment reply that rattlesnake venom is neutralized by a predator’s stomach acid, so though its bite is toxic, the reptile is still perfectly edible for a bobcat.
