A group of canoe paddlers in Monterey Bay, off the coast of Monterey, California, barely broke their stride when a sea lion leapt onto the front of their canoe. They made a fast recovery, though, and one of the women even shouted “keep paddling!”
Outrigger Santa Cruz shared footage of the encounter on Instagram, writing: “So that happened.”

Turns out, the paddlers were so serious because they were in a race. The race took place over Memorial Day weekend off the coast of Del Monte Beach. Outrigger Santa Cruz says there was a ton of marine life near the shore that day.
