A tragic situation in Rio de Janeiro is turning into a cautionary tale by many who are sharing the story. A hiker climbed into a precarious spot on a large boulder, presumably to take a photo, and then he fell. A witness captured footage of the moment Caio Rocha Aguiar Arrabal lost his footing on the rock and slipped into the void. News outlets report he fell nearly 500 feet and died from his injuries.

“Caio Rocha Aguiar Arrabal clambered onto the rock in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday to take the now-tragic snap before falling almost 500 feet to his death,” wrote the New York Post in an Instagram post sharing the disturbing footage.
Arrabal was 44 years old. Local news suggests he was working toward becoming a guide, but he was not leading a group on this trip.
