Fort Clinch or Anastasia: choose the Florida RV site before the beach
Compare Fort Clinch and Anastasia State Park RV camping by setting, hookups, exact-site length, booking windows, dump access, and late arrival.
Fort Clinch or Anastasia: choose the Florida RV site before the beach
Fort Clinch offers a river-or-ocean setting choice; Anastasia offers a larger St. Augustine base, but both demand exact-site length checking.
The settings do different jobs
Fort Clinch splits camping between shaded Amelia River and sunny Atlantic Beach areas. Florida State Parks currently lists 42 river sites plus 21 RV and six tent-only Atlantic sites.[1] Pick the atmosphere first, then open the exact site because the public park page does not publish one trustworthy parkwide RV maximum.
Anastasia has 139 wooded sites near St. Augustine rather than campsites directly on the surf.[5][8] Its official ceiling is 38 feet, but only selected sites accept that length. A long pad in the data file is not permission for a long RV; the separate vehicle-length field controls.[8]
Water and electricity are not full hookups
Fort Clinch describes potable water and a mix of 30- and 50-amp service, with a dump station in each campground.[1] Anastasia lists water and electricity at every campsite plus one communal dump station.[5] Neither campground description promises an individual sewer connection.
Ignore statewide fee boilerplate that bundles the words water, electricity and sewer. The detailed campground pages describe water/electric sites and dump stations instead.[1][5] If sewer at the pedestal is required, neither is the supported choice.
Anastasia’s 38-foot limit belongs to nine sites
The official Anastasia inventory lists seven loops and separates RV-capable records from tent-only sites.[8] Its parsed records identify only sites 41, 54, 66, 69, 72, 82, 87, 123 and 137 as accepting 38-foot equipment.[8] Angel Wing tops out at 34 feet.
Fort Clinch’s current page directs campers into its booking inventory for the particulars of each site.[1] That makes Fort Clinch potentially useful to a rig over 38 feet only when the live booking record explicitly accepts the complete equipment length. Do not rely on an unofficial 45- or 48-foot summary.
Booking and arrival break the tie
Florida residents can reserve 11 months ahead, while nonresidents receive a 10-month window; new inventory opens at 8 a.m. Eastern.[9] That statewide policy supersedes older Fort Clinch wording that simply says 11 months.[1][9]
Pick Fort Clinch for Amelia Island, the fort and a deliberate river-versus-ocean choice. Pick Anastasia for St. Augustine, a larger loop inventory and campground access to the amphitheatre and beach. After-sunset Anastasia arrivals require a same-day call, and setup must finish before 11 p.m.[7] At either park, the exact site record matters more than the park headline.
