In a good ‘ole fashioned feel-good story, a fisherman decided to let a crab avoid a boiling pot after its friend went to bat for her. The fisherman respected the crab so much that he not only left the pair there in peace but also gave them a fish to eat.

Viral footage of the moment shows a fisherman beginning to pull a crab from the mud in the seafloor, when, suddenly, another crab appears and grabs her defensively. The fisherman lets go, gives the animal a thumbs up and a little pet on the shell. Then, in a gesture of goodwill, he leaves a fish behind.
Daily Post World shared the fisherman’s video. In the Instagram post, the news outlet suggests the pair is a male and female.
“This crab is protecting its partner during its molt,” wrote one person in the comments section. “It’s called cradling and it is a fine example of crustacean chivalry.”
