‘I Hate It When Cougars Hunt You’: Mountain Lion Stalks Hikers

A group of four hikers in Alberta, Canada, found themselves being stalked by a mountain lion as they were out trekking before dawn. They realized the cougar was watching and following them when they spotted its glowing eyes peering at them from a short distance away.

The hikers did their best to scare the animal away by making loud noises and throwing rocks in its direction. Tyson of Ghost Valley Photography filmed parts of the scary encounter and posted the clips set to eerie music on Instagram.

“I hate it when cougars hunt you,” he wrote in his Instagram post sharing the video. “It was 3:51 AM on Yamnuska peak when I spotted glowing cat eyes in the bushes only 20 feet away from us. We, (4 experienced hikers) hoped to stumble upon a beautiful sunrise. Instead we found out who was watching us as we hiked through the dense dark forest. A cougar, (also known as a mountain lion) hunted us down for a while, after hearing its chirps. All we could do is stick close, throw rocks to scare it off and yell at it.”
