Half Dome vs. Angels Landing: Which Famous Hike Is Scarier?

A hiker recently shared a break down of two famous hikes in two famous national parks: Half Dome in California’s Yosemite National Park and Angels Landing in Utah’s Zion National Park. Both hikes have a reputation for being intimidating and, in some cases, dangerous. But which hike is scarier?

“As someone who is TERRIFIED of heights, I’ve somehow attempted Half Dome and Angel’s Landing,” wrote Gwyn and Ami in a Facebook post sharing the comparison video. “These trails are known for huge exposure, steep drop offs, and the occasional terrifying headline . . . but after doing both, I definitely have opinions.”

Gwyn and Ami vote for Half Dome as the scarier of the two hikes. Why? It was the slick granite face on the steep cable section of the Half Dome hike that swayed this hiking couple’s opinion.

Many other hikers agree. Several chimed in to add that Half Dome is a much longer hike than Angels Landing, and, even though there’s the potential for deadly falls on both trails, Half Dome is objectively harder. However, some hikers found Angels Landing scarier due to the steep drop offs and lack of chains in some exposed sections.
