A woman is recovering from health complications after suffering from multiple spider bites while camping near Cheney Lake in Kansas. Britagne Miller, a mother of four, was reportedly sitting around a campfire on May 28 when she was bitten. Days later, she developed a large, painful bruise near one of the spider bites on her calf. It kept swelling, and the pain kept getting worse.
A GoFundMe set up by Miller’s husband, Jake, says his wife required surgery to remove large blood clots that formed in her legs. An underlying medical condition made the surgery and after care more complicated, but Miller beat the odds and is now recovering at home. Miller told KAKE that the bites were likely from a brown recluse spider, which is one of two venomous spiders native to Kansas.
