South Yuba by RV: check the 4-ton bridge before the 2027 booking window
Plan a South Yuba RV stay around six RV-capable sites, a 4-ton bridge restriction, the alternate approach, and an announced 2027 reservation transition.
South Yuba by RV: check the 4-ton bridge before the 2027 booking window
At South Yuba, the road eliminates some rigs before the small campsite inventory or future booking window matters.
Start with the loaded rig, not the booking page
South Yuba Campground closed for winter on October 15, 2026. It has 16 sites, but only six accept small trailers or RVs. Published maximums are 22 feet for a motorhome and 16 feet for a trailer.[1][2]
Those numbers make this a small-rig campground. Measure the complete travel configuration and do not assume that a 22-foot tow vehicle plus trailer fits because one component is short.
The shortest-looking approach may be wrong
BLM says the one-lane Edwards Crossing bridge has a 4-ton limit and does not recommend that approach for RVs, trailers or vehicles over four tons.[1][2] A loaded Class B can cross that threshold, and many truck-and-trailer combinations clearly do.
BLM’s alternate approach uses Highway 49, Tyler Foote Crossing, Grizzly Hill Road and North Bloomfield Road.[1][2] Save the sequence offline, then check current county and BLM notices. An alternate route is not a promise that every rig or driver will find the road comfortable.
Reservations are announced, not yet available
BLM says reservations will begin for summer 2027, but it does not publish an exact on-sale date.[1] The current BLM text and Recreation.gov gateway still describe first-come camping.[1][2] This is a transition, not a release date to invent.
Monitor the official pages and avoid third-party claims that name a booking day without agency support. Nevada County lists the Edwards Crossing bridge project across 2026 to 2028, which gives another reason to recheck the route shortly before departure.[3]
A go or no-go order that works
First compare loaded weight with the Edwards Crossing limit and use the alternate route when the bridge is unsuitable. Then compare RV or trailer length with the published campsite limit. Only after both pass does the reservation status matter.
The baseline campground rules list $15 per night, noon checkout, eight people and two vehicles per site, and a 14-day limit within 90 days.[1][2] Fire restrictions can change the cooking plan, so check the current BLM order before arrival.[4]
