Florida Keys state park RV camping: Pennekamp, Curry Hammock, or Bahia Honda?
The best Keys campground depends less on beach reputation than on sewer needs, rig length and the exact loop.
Three parks, three different jobs
John Pennekamp is the utility-first choice. Its 42 reservable sites have water, sewer and 30/50-amp electricity, and most accept RVs up to 40 feet.[3] That makes it the simplest base for a longer stay when moving the coach to dump is undesirable.
Curry Hammock shifts the advantage to physical fit. Its 28 gravel sites have water and 20/30/50-amp service, a dump station and published RV capacity up to 70 feet, but no site sewer.[2] Open flames are prohibited at individual campsites, so meal plans and outdoor equipment need to fit the park rule.
Bahia Honda rewards loop-level reading
Bahia Honda cannot be summarized by one rig limit. Buttonwood sites 1 through 48 have water and electricity, a dump station and waterfront inventory. Sandspur also has water and electricity, but its sharp turns limit rigs to 23 feet hitch-to-bumper. Bayside sits beyond a 6-foot-8-inch clearance and has no electricity, which removes it from consideration for ordinary RVs.[1]
A search result showing Bahia Honda availability is therefore not enough. Open the site record and map, identify the loop, and compare the published restriction with the complete travel length. A 22-foot motorhome and a 22-foot trailer combination are not the same fit problem.
Choose by the trip you will actually run
Pick Pennekamp when full hookups and Upper Keys access dominate. Pick Curry Hammock when a long rig needs a documented pad and a dump-station routine is acceptable. Pick Bahia Honda when scenery and Lower Keys location are worth tighter loop screening. Long Key is not a fourth RV alternative: its current page describes hike-in tent camping and reports a construction closure for primitive camping effective July 12, 2026.[5]
The state gives Florida residents an 11-month lead and other visitors a 10-month lead. Newly released inventory appears at 8 a.m. Eastern.[4] That difference makes the booking date part of the campground comparison, especially for winter.
Before checkout
Save the exact site's maximum equipment length, electrical service and sewer status. Confirm whether the quoted length is for the motorhome alone or the entire combination. Plan the first dump or water move before arrival, and ask how late arrivals obtain gate access if travel through the Keys slips past sunset.[4]
The Florida Keys reward precise booking. A famous park with the wrong loop is a worse reservation than a less celebrated park that fits the RV and service routine.
