Six people, including four children, were stranded in the ocean off the coast of Santa Cruz, California, when their boat capsized in cold water. Thankfully, two teen surfers were nearby and willing and able to help.
Ian Anderson, 14, and Forrest Cook, 13, swam to the family and helped them onto their surfboards and then to safety. The Washington Post shared footage of the rescue on Instagram, adding that the Santa Cruz Fire Department said the teens prevented a “potentially tragic incident.”

Anderson told The Washington Post: “I’m just happy I was there and able to help.” There is no further information about the incident at this time.
