Dale Sanders, known by his trail name “Grey Beard,” just reclaimed his title of the oldest person to hike the Appalachian Trail, a thru-hike from Georgia to Maine, over 2,000 miles long. He is 91 years old. Sanders previously held the record in 2017, but M.J. “Nimblewill Nomad” Eberhart took the title from him a handful of years later.
Sanders finished section hiking the AT earlier this week, and the buzz is already buzzing. Dozens of people posted congratulations to Sanders’ Facebook account, and several news outlets have covered his feat.

AP News says Sanders started his record-breaking trek on September 6. He didn’t hike all the sections in order, starting in West Virginia and then hiking sections at a time with some breaks in between. His last stretch was summiting Mount Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak.
