Vermont State Parks’ new 11-month booking clock: an RV guide for 2027

Vermont State Parks’ new 11-month booking clock: an RV guide for 2027

Vermont’s new clock rewards exact-date planning, but first-day bookings come with a 22-day lock that punishes speculative reservations.

The old monthly rush is gone

Vermont changed its campsite release on February 11, 2026. Inventory now opens every day at 9 a.m., exactly 11 months before arrival, including Burton Island.[1][2] For a desired July 18, 2027 arrival, the practical alarm belongs on August 18, 2026, not on the first day of a release month.

The clock does not create a campsite outside a park’s operating season. Match the desired night to the 2027 schedule first, then count back 11 months. The state explains that opening day is the first reservable night and closing day is the last day-use date, so the last camping night precedes closing day.[4]

The 22-day lock changes the booking decision

For 22 days, Vermont locks any booking claimed the moment its arrival date first opens. During that period, the customer cannot cancel, transfer, or move either end of the stay.[1][2] Party and camping-unit details can still be edited. That makes a first-day booking useful for a firm trip and risky for a placeholder.

Set the travel dates, rig length and leave schedule before competing for the release. If work approval, school dates or a second campground remain unresolved, waiting may be cheaper than winning a reservation that cannot be reshaped for three weeks.

Short stays have another clock

Booking more than a week out usually carries a two-night minimum. Single-night inventory generally appears only during the final seven days, with listed exceptions.[1][3] Same-day bookings can be made until 2 p.m. when space remains.[1][2]

That creates two strategies. A destination stay belongs on the 11-month calendar. A one-night transit stop belongs on the seven-day calendar with a backup campground, because the desired single night may never remain open long enough to reach that window.

Read the schedule, then recheck the park

The 2027 schedule should not be treated as perfect. At least one row appears to carry a 2026 closing year inside the 2027 document.[4] Use the PDF for planning, then confirm the live park page before paying and again before departure.

Vermont’s policy is less chaotic than a monthly release, but it is not casual. The useful reservation plan links a park’s operating dates, one exact 9 a.m. release and the 22-day lock.
