TikTok user @heyarielnicole said she was “today years old” when she learned that people actually live inside the Grand Canyon. And, clearly, she’s not the only one. She posted a video of her reaction as she zoomed up on occupied structures on the floor of the canyon, and the video has over 82 million views.
“I must have skipped school this day because I did not know this lol!” wrote @heyarielnicole in her viral TikTok post. “Did y’all know people live in the Grand Canyon?”

If you’re also learning this for the first time, the people who live in the Grand Canyon primarily live in Supai Village. This small town of about 200 residents is not accessible by road (only by foot or helicopter).
“The Havasupai Tribe administers the [Supai Village] land, which lies outside the boundary and jurisdiction of Grand Canyon National Park,” writes the National Park Service on its website.
And yes, you need a permit to visit.
